Our first installment of MASK MONDAY
The 'BLUEBIRD' Mask by St Louis Designer Shanna Britta Mellnick
With all of this mask making I’m so happy and relieved to make a mask that involves some fun creativity!
I’m using the mask pattern that I help develop for greaterstlmask.wixsite.com and I have adorned it with artwork that I created of a little blue bird. I appliquéd the blue bird onto the mask with hand embroidery and then I painted a tree branch and hand embroidered little pink blossoms. Around the edge of the mask I machine embroidered it and then used a turquoise tie to finish it. I was inspired by the hope of spring. During this intense difficult time, we have been blessed with a beautiful spring and it gives us a daily hope that something beautiful will grow out of this darkness.
My husband is a physician at Barnes and once I saw a desperate need for masks, I immediately started to develop a mask pattern that would protect medical staff. I wanted a fitted mask with a nose wire that could cover and extend the life of a N95 and if a medical staff didn’t have an N95 they could then insert a high quality filter (I make filters for this mask too in several materials with high filtration).
We are excited to share the proceeds of this MASK MONDAY mask with The Gateway Resilience Fund! These masks should ship around May 22nd. These are handmade locally and are very limited in number.
